The remote volcanic Island of Ascension sat smouldering and lifeless for a million years, until it was ‘terraformed’ by Victorian naturalists into a tropical paradise. Today, scientists descend on the island seeking answers, as humanity takes its first steps toward geo-engineering our planet, transforming natural environments around the world, and beyond.
